Basketball Court Repaving: July 2024
During the week of July 8, City crews began the process of repaving basketball courts at Dred Scott Park. The following steps are involved in the repaving process:
- Two days before paving date, all support standards will be removed and riser plates installed to ensure the anchoring bolts remain above the new surface
- Once begun, the paving work will take approximately 2 working days.
- Once complete, the new asphalt will require approximately 2 – 3 days to properly set.
- Currently, Wednesday, July 17 is the target date for hoop reinstallation and court reopening.
- Courts will remain open for 4 - 6 weeks while asphalt fully cures.
- Sometime after that, on a date to be determined by the contractor, the color coating will be applied. This will require closure of the courts for a period of time to be determined by the contractor to allow the color to fully dry.

Basketball Support Standard Replacement: August 2022
On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, Park Maintenance staff initiated removal and replacement of the basketball support standard on the southwest corner of the Dred Scott Playfield courts to reset it to vertical. As part of this initiative, all four backboards and rims are also being replaced. The standard that needed resetting will be unplayable for one week following the repair, while the other three hoops will be immediately playable upon completion of backboard installation. Questions?
