One of the best ways to keep Bloomington safe and connected is to get to know each other. Here are three events coming up this August intended to keep the “unity” in community by strengthening neighbor-to-neighbor connections and increasing trust and respect between police officers and community members to help make Bloomington safer.

  • National Night Out, Tuesday, August 6, is a national crime prevention program held each year on the first Tuesday of August. With more than 300 organized watch groups hosting National Night Out parties in Bloomington this year, there is likely to be one near you. Details at blm.mn/nno.

  • Cops and Cones, Tuesday, August 20, 1-2:30 p.m., at Scoops Ice Cream, 7700 W. Old Shakopee Road offers games with giveaways, a squad car and free ice cream for kids. Details at blm.mn/copsandcones.

  • Cookout with Cops, Wednesday, August 21, 5-7:30 p.m., Moir Park, 10320 Morgan Ave. S. offers free food, drinks and raffle prizes (while supplies last). Bring a lawn chair or blanket, seating is limited. Details at blm.mn/cop-cookout.
