Permit Information and Fees

 Building Permit Applications received without a named contractor require payment of the plan review portion of fees prior to being accepted.

Electrical, Mechanical/HVAC, and Plumbing trade permits have minimum residential and commercial fees along with an added state surcharge. Other fees (e.g plan review fees) may apply.

The City of Bloomington accepts credit card payment by Visa, Master Card, American Express, or Discover card or checks payable to the City of Bloomington.

Residential Electrical

• Complete wiring new dwelling (includes new electrical service): $150 per dwelling
• New and upgraded electrical services (includes mast repairs, panel change outs and sub panels): $55
• Rewiring/remodeling/additions: ($55 for first room, $10 each additional room, $150 maximum)
• Minor work (includes furnace, A.C., saver switch, siding projects, etc.): $55
• Minimum fee: $55

Note: State surcharge is $1 for residential permits.

Commercial Electrical

Permit based on job valuation use the below calculation sheet to calculate your commercial permit fees:

Factory, shop or building quarterly permit 

2.5 % X job valuation on quarterly basis

Miscellaneous Electrical Commercial

• Temporary service during construction: $65
• Hot tub, pool or spa wiring (commercial/residential):  $65/$55
• Transitory projects, events, special inspections or re-inspections: $48 per inspection

HVAC

1.5% of job valuation plus state surcharge (state surcharge= job valuation x 0.0005). 

Minimum fees: Residential $55 plus state surcharge; Commercial $65 plus state surcharge. 

Plan review fee: 10% of permit fee when job valuation exceeds $50,000.

Plumbing

2% of job valuation plus state surcharge (state surcharge= job valuation x 0.0005). 

Minimum fees: Residential $55 plus state surcharge; Commercial $65 plus state surcharge.

Plan review fee: 10% of permit fee when job valuation exceeds $50,000.

Residential Roofing permit fee = $100 flat fee
Residential Siding permit fee = $150 flat fee
Residential Roofing and Siding combined permit fee = $250 flat fee

A separate Electrical Permit Application must be submitted along with trade applications for the following: Mechanical/HVAC Permit Application for work that includes reconnects (e.g. furnace wiring), Plumbing Permit Application for work involving electric water heaters, Roofing or Siding Permit Application for work involving outside fixtures.

Daycare or Foster Care permit fee = $50
Open Burning permit fee = $55
