The City uses Facebook to inform users about City services, events and activities. In general, posts to Facebook will be designed to promote Bloomington as a remarkable community where people want to be, showcase Bloomington’s beauty and enhance community image.
The City’s Instagram account engages the community with dynamic images that promote Bloomington as a remarkable community where people want to be. Instagram users are primarily interested in visual storytelling. Instagram is used to showcase Bloomington’s beauty and enhance community image. The City limits its use of Instagram to visual posts by using photos and videos with little or no text as part of the image.
The City's LinkedIn account showcases economic initiatives, projects, and the people and partnerships that contribute to the prosperity and well-being of the community. LinkedIn content also includes development and planning updates and City job opportunities.
Nextdoor users are primarily interested in communicating with one another and sharing information specific to their neighborhoods. With this in mind, the City limits its use of Nextdoor general posts to items of prominent citywide interest, generally avoiding messages targeted at specific segments of the population and special interest groups.
The City may also use Nextdoor's audience-targeting capabilities to provide information of neighborhood-specific interest, such as local road construction updates, water main breaks and so on.
The Bloomington Fire Department maintains an X/Twitter account to engage with the public and to share information about the department’s services and activities.
The Fire Department uses X/Twitter:
- To provide publicly available information about the Fire Department's responses to various incidents.
- To share fire safety and fire prevention information.
- To encourage open communication and build public awareness.
- To support recruitment efforts.
- To share information about upcoming events and activities.
The City's social media accounts are not part of an emergency notification system. In the event of an emergency or any situation requiring a Police or Fire response, call 911.

The Bloomington Police Department maintains X and Facebook accounts as well as a Nextdoor agency account to engage with the public and share information about the department’s services and activities.
The Police Department uses these accounts:
- To provide publicly available information about the Police Department's responses to various incidents.
- To share crime prevention and other safety information.
- To build public awareness.
- To support recruitment efforts
- To share information about upcoming events and activities.
The City's social media accounts are not part of an emergency notification system. In the event of an emergency or any situation requiring a Police or Fire response, call 911. Photos, images and posts of missing persons will be deleted as individuals are located or when Police staff deem necessary.
The BPD uses LinkedIn to share information about training and career development, build trust and connect with future job candidates.
Social media allows visitors to connect with others with similar interests, receive news and updates, and add comments and content, helping to shape robust, participatory online communities.
Dwan Golf Course has social media accounts on Facebook, X/Twitter and Instagram. These accounts allow us to engage our constituents effectively and efficiently, share information, and elevate the level of awareness about our courses in particular, and about golf in general.
Our intent is to use these channels to share information in a timely and customer-centric manner with the objective of developing closer ties and an exceptional, mutually beneficial relationship with our community.

The City of Bloomington Farmers Market maintains social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram. These accounts allow us to engage our community members and followers through creative content that promotes awareness about the farmers market and its activities.
Our goals are to increase the community’s understanding of the Bloomington Farmers Market, connect patrons to current market vendors, empower followers to regularly attend their local Farmers Market, and communicate updates and changes to planned events in a timely manner.
