September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. While anyone can be at risk, people with mental health issues experience a much higher risk of suicide.

Since 2019, mental health issues among adolescents in Minnesota have increased, according to the Minnesota Student Survey. More students reported having skipped school due to poor mental health. Recognizing warning signs early and providing support may save someone’s life.

If you or someone you know is having thoughts about suicide, call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: 988 or text HOME to 741741. Visit Save.org to learn more about how you can help prevent suicide.
