Almost two years ago, the Bloomington Police Department (BPD) adopted a shared values-based mission, vision and core value to guide how it would serve the people of Bloomington. By partnering with community members, the shared values of respect, empathy and honesty became central to all operations.

Since then, those values have guided the hiring of 88 individuals and the promotion of 10 staff members and they have provided a solid foundation for how the whole department works.

“The simplicity of respect demonstrated through our compassionate and honest service has unified our department,” said Deputy Chief Damon Bitney. “We all operate to ensure the BPD is a greatly respected police department and that begins and ends with all of our staff continuously working hard to earn the respect of everyone we serve.”
