Environmental quality can have a substantial impact on individual and economic health of a community. The City of Bloomington and the MN Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) regulates various aspects to ensure health and safety for everyone.
Noise
Excessive noise is injurious to public health, safety and welfare. Noise is restricted within the city depending on the time, place and source. Some exceptions may apply, so review the Noise Code - City Code Sections 10.29.02 for more information.
In general:
- Business areas are limited to 65 decibels (dBA).
- Industrial or freeway development zones are limited to 70 dBA.
- In residential areas - noise shall not exceed 60 dBA for an extended time during the day (7a.m. - 10p.m.) and 50 dBA at night.
- If industrial or business operations are adjacent to residential areas then the residential standards shall apply.
