The Bloomington Police Department collaborated with community youth program leaders to advertise various youth program locations. Chief Hodges believes that if youth have choices available to them, this will help them make good choices as they become young adults. 

The programs below provide youth the opportunity to: 

  1. Remain active in the community and reduce their idle time.
  2. Strengthen their interest in an array of programming opportunities through passionate mentors sharing their strengths.
  3. Create additional friendships.  

As more programming opportunities become available, they will be listed below.

Fusion is a free after school program for referred students that provides academic support as well as leadership opportunities and engaging activities. 

Hillside Church of Bloomington

Hillside Church offers a Youth Drop-In Program that offers a space for middle and high school students to come hang out, play in the gym, receive homework help, and share a meal with peers and adults from the community. We will have snacks, open gym, games/crafts, a homework area, and we will wrap up our time together with dinner.

  • Hours: 2:45 – 5:30 p.m. on Mondays
  • Age preference: Grades 6-12

Hometown Church
Hometown Church

We love teaching teens boxing skills! You'll learn punching, movement, defense and gain confidence and discipline, plus meet some good folks along the way. Our boxing fundamentals group is for teens 7-12th grade. We have all of the equipment you'll need. Program is led by Mike Ashley. He has worked with teens since 1997. He's licensed to coach with USA Boxing, is NASM Personal Training Certified, and holds multiple graduate degrees. As an Air Force vet he believes discipline and discovery in community are powerful forces for good.

  • Hours: 4:30 - 6 p.m. on Tuesdays; private group lessons upon request
  • Age preference: Grades 7 - 12
  • Accommodations: We will provide rides from Kennedy High School + Oak Grove Middle School to boxing upon request teens will need a ride home or make arrangements with Mike. Meal is provided at 6:30 p.m. First three teens to sign-up and complete four weeks of boxing will receive custom gloves

City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Mobile Recreation

Offered by the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department, Mobile Recreation provides free activities in various Bloomington parks each summer. No registration is required for this drop-in program designed for youth ages 18 and under. For seven weeks from mid-June through early August, Mobile Rec arrives at a different Bloomington park on Tuesday morning and afternoon bringing with it unique activities that may include kickball, Spikeball, arts & crafts, pop-up disc golf, slacklining, parachutes and more!
