Join us for an unveiling of the COVID-19 Memorial on Monday, June 17th at 4:30 PM near the break room at the south entrance of Civic Plaza. Mayor Busse and artist Aaron Squadroni will provide remarks.
Bloomington’s Public Health Division commissioned the COVID-19 memorial art sculpture, with Creative Placemaking supporting their artist selection and engagement process. The selected artists, Aaron Squadroni and Leah Yellowbird, conceptualized a metallic quilt sculpture for the memorial. Funded by a federal COVID-19 grant through the Minnesota Department of Health, this COVID Memorial Quilt is intended to honor the lives lost to COVID, allow for reflection on this time in history, and serve as a testament to the resiliency of the City’s residents and employees through the pandemic. The Artists and City previously facilitated community engagement activities at Hillcrest Elementary School, Creekside Community Center, Civic Plaza and Martin Luther Campus, Fairview to capture reflections.
