Bloomington Police Chiefs
More than fifty years of leadership
Jeff Potts has been Chief of Police for the Bloomington Police Department since November 3, 2008.
Chief Potts holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Concordia College, and a Master of Arts Degree in Police Administration from the University of St. Thomas. He is also graduate of the FBI’s National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.Chief Potts is a 21 year veteran of the Bloomington force. He began his career as a patrol officer in 1991. Later he spent 4 years in the Special Investigations Unit; where he worked undercover as a detective investigating narcotics and other vice-type criminal activity. When the Mall of America added a Bloomington Police Department satellite unit in 2002, then “Sergeant” Potts supervised the highly visible MOA Retail Crime Unit. His vision encouraged strong bonds between the BPD, mall security and store employees and managers. Those efforts continue to pay off today as the BPD and the Mall of America security work closely to promote a safe, enjoyable environment for shoppers and employees of the MOA. Prior to being appointed as Chief of Police he served as the Commander of Patrol Operations, where he oversaw the uniformed patrol activities of 56 officers and 10 sergeants.
