Evening Performance Series 2014
As a part of our Arts in the Parks programs, the sounds of summer will echo throughout Normandale Bandshell (unless otherwise noted) with the Twin Cities most sought after musicians and concert bands. Introducing our new Hillside Jazz Series, Jazz fans wont want to miss these premier jazz events on select Tuesdays.
Tuesday, June 10, 2014 - 7 p.m.
Minnesota Symphonic Winds
Performs concert band classics and is considered by many to be the finest concert band in the state. This group will kick of the Evening Performance Series at Normandale Lake Bandshell for 2014.

Bend in the River Big Band
The Bend in the River Big Band was formed in 1987 from Alumni of Gustavus Adophus College under the direction of Dr. Mark Lammers. Join this swinging jazz band!

Bloomington Medalist Band
The Medalist Concert Band, a volunteer, 70 member concert band, was founded in 1968. For over a quarter century, the members of the Medalist Concert Band have musically responded with the finest in the wind band music. They have distinguished themselves on concert stages and through recordings throughout this country and abroad.

Rum River Brass - Brass Quintet
The Rum River Brass is a quintet consisting of experienced players from the northern part of the Twin Cities. They play an eclectic repertoire, including jazz, classical transcriptions, ragtime, pop, Dixieland - in short, just about anything!

Eden Prairie Community Band
The Eden Prairie Community Band is an adult community band of over fifty musicians most, but not all coming from Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The group was organized in 1973 and is under the direction of Tom Maeck. In addition to the concert band, subsets of members also participate in Jazz on the Prairie Big Band under the direction of Don Bates. The band is also home for the Prairie Schooners (Dixieland) and a number of woodwind and brass ensembles.

With their sparkling vocal harmonies, solid jazz chops, quick-witted banter and cool vintage suits, the Jaztronauts have stage presence in spades. A staple of the Twin Cities swing scene for the past decade, the band possesses the unusual ability to be both versatile and distinctive, and have a repertoire deep enough to be tailored to almost any venue and event.

Everett Smithson Band
The Everett Smithson Band plays an interesting variety of music as well as standards that have a unique spin on them and many delightful originals. Their New Orleans / French Quarter sound will feature Zydeco, Blues, Rockin Roots, Hillbilly Hoedowns, gospel and more.

Jack Norton and the Mullet River Boys
The Mullet River Boys are musical purveyors of vintage vaudeville, jug band and ragtimey bluegrass music. Led by EMMY Award winning songwriter Jack Norton, the boys have been called, "one of the most entertaining acoustic groups in the Midwest" by the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the group was named "Artists of the Year" by the Minneapolis Star Tribune in 2000. This dynamic band - whose stated goal is to literally, "corrupt an audience with pleasure" - features Jack Norton on banjo, ululele and guitar - backed by the Mullet River Boys performing on washboards, kazoos, harmonicas, washtub bass and more. Performing original songs, gypsy hokum, vaudeville swing and instrumental breakdowns along with barbershop-style vocals sung through vintage megaphones, sight gags and comedy, the boys are highly entertaining.
