Human Services works with more than 300 volunteers each year in programs, activities and special events. Volunteers may choose to assist at one time special events or to volunteer on an on-going basis.

Available volunteer opportunities:

Photographer

Capture the variety of programs and services offered through the Human Services Division for promotional use. Coordinate and stage photographs with program participants, direct participants in the shots, ensure proper lighting is achieved and edit shots for print quality.

  • 2-4 hour time commitment each month with day and evening opportunities available.
  • Locations will vary and may include Creekside Community Center, Bloomington Civic Plaza and other City facilities.

City Diner Server

Assist with preparations for daily meals offered weekdays at Creekside. Duties may include greeting diners, decorating, setting tables, serving meals, clearing dishes and clean up. This position requires a criminal background check authorization form be completed.

  • Daily meals on Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Special lunch events (occur 3x per month) 9:30-11:30 a.m. or 11:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m.

Frozen Meal Delivery Driver

Consider becoming a volunteer for the Optage Senior Dining Choices program by delivering meals to individual's homes and/or apartments.

  • Each volunteer would be delivering 1 week's worth of meals to the homes of about 6-8 residents. Therefore each volunteer would need a valid driver's license, as well as their own vehicle.
  • Each route is designed to be about 1 hour in length. The meals would be picked up at the Creekside Community Center on Wednesday sometime between 10:30-11 a.m., depending on the route.
  • We are looking for volunteers that would be willing to commit to helping in 1 of 3 ways:
    • An every week driver (4 times/month)
    • An every other week driver (2 times/month)
    • A fill-in driver to help out on day(s) where one of our regular every week or every other week drivers are unable to drive.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, contact Jeremy Misener, at 651-724-4996 or jmisener@preshomes.org for more information. This program is being offered through a partnership between the City of Bloomington Human Services and Optage Senior Dining.
