Human Services works with more than 300 volunteers each year in programs, activities and special events. Volunteers may choose to assist at one time special events or to volunteer on an on-going basis.

Available volunteer opportunities:

City Diner Server

Assist with preparations for special lunch events. Duties include greeting diners, decorating, setting tables, serving meals, clearing dishes and clean up.

  • Up to 3 days each month for 2-6 hours per month (9:30-11:30 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.)
  • Creekside Community Center

Fare For All Express Worker

Assist in 1 of several roles in the operation of a monthly Fare For All Express offered on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Roles available include greeter, receipt taker, distribution line, free table and cart runners.

  • 1 day per month (3rd Wednesday) for 3 hours (10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.)
  • Creekside Community Center

Youth Worker (for ages 14-18)

Assist building attendants with facility operations including room set-ups, light cleaning and some office work.

  • Fridays for 2.5 hours from 4:30-7 p.m.
  • Creekside Community Center

Special Events Volunteer

Choose to assist with 1 or more roles which may include participant registration, refreshments, physical set-up of tables, chairs and other supplies.

  • 2-3 hours per event. Events are scheduled throughout the year.
    • Upcoming: Creekside Community Center Open House, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • Bloomington (sites vary depending on event or program)

Service Organization Groups and Community Opportunities

Help out at various Human Services and Human Rights Commission special events that take place within the community.

Volgistics

Volgistics allows volunteers access to their schedules and job assignments from home. Volunteers can add additional shifts or sign up for new volunteer opportunities. They can also receive a record of the hours they have worked.
